Subscribing to BarkBox is easy. Head on over to BarkBox and hit the Subscribe button. You will be taken to a short survey about your dog so BarkBox can get to know them better. Enter your email, choose your subscription plan and then pick your first theme. From there enter your shipping and billing information, hit the Buy Now button and your first box will be on its way soon! Every box contains more than $40 worth of toys and treats for your pup.

How BarkBox Works

BarkBox is a monthly subscription box filled with fun toys and treats for your dog. Each month’s box has a different theme such as Star Wars, Jackpawt and Spiderman full of goodies. The classic BarkBox contains 2 toys, 2 treats and 1 chew. There are 3 subscription options. The monthly subscription is $35 a box. The 6 month subscription is the most popular one and it comes to $26 a month. The annual subscription is the best deal at $23 a box for 12 monthly boxes.

Your BarkBox membership begins with a series of questions so that BarkBox can know what kinds of goodies to put in your dog’s box. First you enter your pup’s name and gender. Next you choose your box size based on your dog’s weight. Options are small (1-20 lbs), medium (20-50 lbs) or large (50+ lbs). From there, you can enter your dog’s specific breed or breeds if your dog is a mixed breed. Next up, is a question about your dog’s birthday or adoption date. You can skip both questions about your dog’s breed or birthday if you choose to.

Finally, on to your dog’s nutritional needs. BarBox treats never contain wheat, corn or soy and are made in the USA or Canada. Here you get to pick if your dog has an aversion or is allergic to chicken, turkey or beef. You can also chat with BarkBox directly after checkout for any additional dietary needs.

BarkBox Pricing and Options

There are several subscription pricing options. The basic box has 3 plans: the monthly plan is $35 a box, the 6 month plan is $26 a box for 6 boxes and the 12 month plan is $23 a box for 12 boxes. You can upgrade to the Classic Extra Toy subscription which includes an additional super deluxe extra toy in each box. Pricing for this plan is $44 a box for the one month plan, $33 a month for the 6 month plan and $30 a month for the 12 month plan. There is also an option for a Classic Lite Plan that is a flat fee of $14.99 a month. You must pre-pay for the 6 and 12 month Classic Box Plans.

Is BarkBox Worth It?

The treats are all made in the USA or Canada and you can customize treats based on your dog’s allergy or dietary preferences. There are 3 subscription plans to choose from with the best bang for your buck being the annual plan. Finally, the themes are more for human enjoyment, but are original and really fun! If you are a subscription box fan and a dog lover, BarkBox is definitely worth it.

BarkBox Tips

When you create your membership, you have an option to add The Extra Toy Club to your plan. For an extra $9 a month you can get a premium third toy added to your monthly box.

The Bark brand has 3 other subscription box options to choose from in addition to the Classic BarkBox. The SuperChewer subscription is for the dog who has an unusually high oral fixation and contains 2 extra tough durable toys, plus 2 bags of treats and 2 strong, yet meaty chews. The BarkBright subscription contains a monthly supply of dog dental chews and triple enzymatic toothpaste to help your dog’s oral care and keep their breath fresh. BarkEats is a monthly customizable meal plan for your pooch.

Bark also has a separate online store called BarkShop where you can buy individual plush toys, treats and chews. Many of the items for sale in the BarkShop are from BarkBox monthly themed boxes. You don’t have to be a subscription member to BarkBox to shop in BarkShop, and although they run promotions occasionally, you pay full retail prices for the items in BarkShop if you’re not a Bark member.

BarkBox versus BoxDog

BoxDog is a subscription membership that offers quarterly or monthly boxes for your dog. Each box full of handmade dog treats, vegan skincare products, doggie gear and toys are delivered to your home with the BoxDog membership. Boxes contain 4 themed dog items and you get to choose what you want in your box.

The cost of BoxDog is $35 per month for the monthly plan and $45 a box for the seasonal, once a quarter box plan. The price of BarkBox is less and starts at $33 a month for the monthly plan. Each box price goes down depending on the duration of your plan. BoxDog does offer free shipping whereas BarkBox does not.

BoxDog treats are baked by hand by BoxDog chefs. The BoxDog subscription is also a bit more versatile than BarkBox in that they offer wellness products and gear like backpacks and doggie blankets. BarkBox sticks to toys and chews. Both are great subscription box options, it just depends what your budget and needs are for you and your pup.

BarkBox versus Amazing Clubs Dog Treat of the Month Club

Amazing Clubs Dog Treat of the Month Club is a monthly subscription box full of fresh baked, gourmet dog treats. Membership types are flexible with options of 3 months, 6 months, seasonal or annual subscriptions. You also have the option to pay in full or pay per shipment with all membership types.

The cost of Amazing Clubs Dog Treat of the Month Club starts at  $19.95 a box for a 3 month subscription. Each box contains a full pound of two fresh baked delicious dog treats made with all natural ingredients. The treats are intricately decorated and look almost fit for human consumption.

The price of  BarkBox starts at $33 a box for the monthly subscription and although their treats are made in the US and Canada, Amazing Clubs Dog Treat of the Month Club has more amazing gourmet treats. BarkBox offers toys and chews in addition to just treats so you get a wider variety of items for your pooch with BarkBox. If your dog loves special treats, then they will love both box options.
